Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses.  It can cause mild to severe illness and in serious cases, can lead to death. The CDC and your Winn-Dixie Pharmacist recommend getting an annual flu vaccine as the first and most important step to prevent this illness. 

At Winn-Dixie, we offer flu vaccines at each of our pharmacies.   Our team of American Pharmacists Association (APhA) certified pharmacists will consult with you on the best type of flu shot for your health.  There are several types of flu shots available:

• Regular Influenza:
  • Injected intramuscularly
  • Winn-Dixie Pharmacist can administer from 3 years of age and older (depending on state laws)

• Fluzone High Dose:
  • Injected intramuscularly
  • Recommended by CDC as an option for patients 65 years of age and older
  • Contains 4 times the amount of antigen of regular flu vaccine

• Fluzone Interdermal:
  • Injected intradermally
  • A different delivery option for patients 18 – 64 years of age. This vaccine is administered under the skin with a very small needle.
  • 90% smaller needle than the regular vaccine.
  • Fluzone ID ensures reliable delivery of accurate dosing of antigen into the dermal layer.

• Wash your hands frequently
• Use tissues whenever possible or sneeze into the crook of your elbow when a tissue isn’t handy
• Stock up and eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables
• Drink 64 ounces of water daily
